Friends MATTer is dedicated to mobilizing individual and community resources to identify, connect, and strengthen a lasting support network for friends and families on their path to
long-term recovery from the impacts of Substance Use Disorder.
We envision a world where:
- All people recovering from substance use and co-occurring disorders receive the minimum standard of five years of monitoring, treatment and follow-up in the same way that we treat other chronic and relapsing diseases such as diabetes or asthma.
- Communities all across America LEAN IN to control this devastating epidemic by creating recovery-friendly environments and coming up with creative solutions to band together our collective resources to support all of our families, friends, loved ones and neighbors to find and maintain long-term recovery.
- The stigmatization of addiction is eliminated and no longer a barrier to the well-being of people struggling to achieve recovery in healthcare settings, or within the population at-large.
- The more recovery time a person has, the less likely they are to experience a recurrence. Research shows that 65% - 85% of people in recovery will experience a relapse during the first two years. Relapse statistics drop to 15% once a person achieves the critical five-year milestone. Those with opioid use disorder a particularly vulnerable during relapse, as this is when many fatal overdoses occur.
Join us today. Stand strong with your block…your boro…your county…your country… Work with us to create a lasting support system for people working to overcome this disease – because Friends MATTer.
